1870 DeWitt Co. Census, but in
looking at it, I find that in Harp Township:
Household 80/80, where your Peter Willson, age 35, born in OH, and wife
Fannie , age 19, born MD (that you say was a Smalley) and Ida, age 9/12 of
a year, are listed.....next Household is Andrew Wilson, age 27, born IL,
and wife Maria, age 20, born OH . In the next house, your Charlotte
Wilson, age 70, born MD is residing
Also in Harp Township:
In Household 182/182, I find a SMALLER family, and I'm wondering if it
could be Smalley....spelled incorrectly? the reason this struck me as a
possibility is this:
SMALLER
John age 45, male, born PA
July A. age 45, female, born MD
* John age 18, male, born OH *
James age 16, male, born OH
Edward, age 14, male, born OH

1882 DeWitt County History:- Wilson Township:
Pg. 333
In the fall of 1834, there was quite a little settlement made, as follows:
Thomas Wilson and his brother, Edward. Jacob Walters, John Lash, Michael
Troutman, and John Guittman. The Wilsons were from Ohio, and Thomas was
married. He moved his family here with a four-house covered wagon.
At that time, the family consisted of his wife and eight children; Joseph,
Alice, John, Aaron, Mary, Asa, Sally and Peter. He settled in section 34,
and the fall following, he entered the SE1/4 of the SE1/4 of said section
of land. Four other children were born afterward: Rachel, Harriet,
Caroline and Andrew.
Only three are now living (1882), Andrew and Peter in Harp Township, and
Asa in Wilson Township. Mrs. Wilson died about six years ago (1876?).
........................
Edward Wilson, brother of Thomas came here a single man. In 1837 he
married Martha Vandeventer, settling in section 35 of Wilson Township. He
reared a large family of nine children. Theirs was the first marriage in
Wilson Township. Edward did May 10, 1863.

Rolla Richards preached the first sermon in the township, in 1835 in the
log-house of Thomas Wilson.

The first fine Cattle in the township were introduced in the township by
Thomas Wilson in 1850. He had them brought here from Kentucky. They were
the short-horned Durham breed.

The first Blacksmithing was done in 1837, by Isaiah Wilson, brother of
Thomas and Edward. He later moved to McLean Co. Illinois and remained there
until his death in 1856.

(Your Thomas must have owned land in Harp township also)

"Thomas Wilson came to this township in 1836, he had six sons, two of whom
yet live here. (Peter and Andrew). In 1838 he errected a saw mill in
section 2 along the North fork of Salt Creek. In 1840 he added a burr
stone for the grinding of corn.

John Weedman was a native of Pennsylvania. He migrated to Ohio when it
became a state. There he married Rachel Wilson, a native of MD, and
daughter of Asa Wilson of Perry Co. Ohio, where he was one of the early
settlers of that state. Mr. Weedman and his family came to Illinois in
1830 to McLean Co. They migrated on to DeWitt County in 1835, setteling in
Santa Anna Township at Hurleys Grove. there they raised seven sons and
three daughters.

Obituary---Chas. Mack

Charles Mack was born in Winchester, Ohio May 27, 1849, died in Colorado
Springs, Colo, Nov. 17, 1920.

His boyhood days were spent in Illinois where at an early age he answered
his country's call and served thru the war with an Illinois regiment. He was
married to Dianna McMahan soon after rhe war. To this union was born five
children, two of whom died in infancy, and Mrs. Katherine Hamiltom who died in
young womanhood. Most of his life was spent on the farm in Nodaway county, Mo,
until about fifteen years ago when they moved to Eldorado Springs, Mo, where th
wife and mother passed away.

March 30, 1910, he was married to Henrietta Laird, who with the two
daughters, Eunice and Mrs. Mary Livengood, survive to mourn their loss.

He was of a cheerful disposition and loved nothing better than to visit
with old neighbors and friends. He was a devout Christian man, belonging to the
Methodist church since early manhood. While he wanted to live and enjoyed his
home and friends, he was ready to go and his death came as a relief from great
suffering.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church in Colleg
Springs, Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. A. P. Keast, and the
remains laid to rest in Maple Hill cemetery.[henHarrt.FTW]
