Joseph FINNEY was born on 4 Dec 1822 in Hamilton County,Ohio. He died in 1893 in California. He married Susan O. MCMAHON on 15 Oct 1859 in Hancock County,Illinois.

1880 History of Page County

FINNEY, JOSEPH, farmer section 15, 160 acres of land, P. O. College springs;
born in Hamilton county, Ohio, December 4, 1822. Fortyfour years later moved
from the home of his boyhood to Clarke county, Ohio, and in March of 1880, came
to Page county, Iowa. Mr. Finney and wife have been members of the United
Presbyterian church for forty years. He married his wife, Miss Susan O. McMahan
of Hancock county, Illinois, on the 15th day of October, 1859. They are the
parents of six children: Edith S., Willie A., Venora O., Ida May, Mary E., and
Edna Gracie.

Died while visiting in California.

Lived in Clifton Ohio at the time of daughter Emma's birth in 1873. Moved to
Page County Iowa in 1880. Moved to Losangeles California in 1895.[henHarrt.FTW]

Susan O. MCMAHON [Parents] was born on 1 Sep 1840. She died in Jan 1911 in Los Angeles,California. She married Joseph FINNEY on 15 Oct 1859 in Hancock County,Illinois.

Miss Venna O. Finney moved to a farm 3 miles east of College Springs, Page Co.
Iowa, in March 1880 from the state of Ohio, where she was born June 16, 1865.
She was baptized in the U.P. church of which she was a life long member, by Dr.
R. K. Campbell from whose wife she received the name "Venna"

In her early 'teens she began teaching school in the country districts round
about her home--at the Coulter, McAffee, McCullough, Braddyville, Kelley,
Farquhar, Nelson, Lynn Point schools and Olive Branch just south of Clarinda. A
$25.00 per month she helped her father pay off the mortgage on the farm.

In 1895 the Finney family moved to California following Mr. Finney's death whil
on a visit there in 1893. Miss Finney continued her teaching in Los Angeles
County and City until her retirement in 1938. In all she taught school 53 years
and loved it.

She passed away quietly in her home in Los Angeles from a heart attack on
December 23,1950. She had been bed fast about 8 weeks. She loved life and peopl
to the very last--especially her own family of relatives which she held togethe
by her interest and helpfulness. She celebrated her 85th birthday with nephews
in Portland Oregon. She had enjoyed a motor trip through the "deep South" to
Florida and back during the months of March and April last spring.

Miss Finney is survived by one sister, Grace E. Finney of Los Angeles, and seve
nieces and five nephews and families. Her six Grandnephews served as pall
bearers. She had a host of friends.

She was laid away in Mountain View Cemetery, Pasadena, Calif, Dec. 26, 1950. Dr
T. C. Strangeway and Dr. W. E. McCulloch of the 1st United Presbyterian church,
Los Angeles, officiated.

Miss Grace Finney died at the United Presbyterian Sanitarium at Glendale, Calif
Aug 3. Funeral services were at the Mountain View Cemetery Chapel in the
foothills of Altadena, in charge of her pastor, Dr. T. C. Strongway of the Firs
United Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles. She was laid to rest beside her
sister, Venna. Her six nephews were pallbearers. She had attended the evening
vesper services and had been taken back to her room when she died suddenly. The
old Finney home was east of College Springs where the Jay Jamisons now live.

Edgar Charles SCOTT.Edgar married Araminta Damaris PUNTENNEY on 10 Oct 1876.

Araminta Damaris PUNTENNEY [Parents] was born on 13 Jul 1856 in Carthage,Hancock Co. Il. She died on 1 Aug 1943. She married Edgar Charles SCOTT on 10 Oct 1876.
